Rosette
Welcomed by a Jalli lattice screen, warm Eastern sunlight
scatters in bright beads across a tiled floor worn smooth
by tidal waves of heels and toes. Kohl black silhouettes
form, governed by the rules of eternal geometry, to
capture the light and hold it fast in crystalline crooks and
corners. Hold it still. Still. Until, pulled by the relentless
rhythm of the restless sun, the lines have no choice but
to drift and twist, fold and furl, mingle and merge.
Then, glimpsed in the space of a melting shadow,
memento of this dawn, the bright blush of a pink rosette.
