The moon of a fingernail: 0.31cm.
A neatly curled, jet-black eyelash: 0.46cm.
A whorl of pale blonde hair: 5.1cm
His belly button, newly formed: 0.51cm.
His big toe, a tiny replica of his father’s: 1.2cm
The narrow gap between his shoulder blades: 12.7cm
That chin, a defiant point: 1.44cm.
That bottom lip, intent on quivering: 0.37cm
An ankle, not even a handspan: 14.3cm
The sweet-smelling nape of his neck: 3.8cm
The space between his heart and mine: immeasurable.

He is fourteen months old.
Never again will he be this small (or perfect).
